30-year-old Meghraj Gurung (Gore) forced to stay chained due to mental imbalance for seven years has returned to normal life.
After divorce of Meghraj's parents born in Gorkha district, he was staying with his mother at maternal house in Lamjung's Dudhpokhari Rural Municipality-2, Bhumlichowk. She reached Qatar and Malaysia for foreign employment and returned to the village after some time.
After returning to the village, his life began to go downhill due to poor company and drug abuse of friends. He began to show violent behavior as alcohol and drug addiction lost his mental balance. After walking without clothes and beating a villager, the family unable to control him and chained him on a field leaf for seven years.
On 2080 Mangsir 27, Human Service Ashram rescued Meghraj and kept it under its own protection. Ashram Province Coordinator Anita Adhikari informed that Meghraj has returned to normal after being kept in medicinal treatment, counseling, and family environment for 13 months.
'Her family and villagers could not understand that this problem was mental illness. It was said in the village 'damaged by alcohol'. However, medicinal treatment and proper care could have made white brother completely cured. Unfortunately, he has not been able to take medication and get family support for 7 years. ’
After continuous support and treatment from the Ashram, Meghraj's mental health improved, it is possible to reunite with his family. Meghraj is now ready to start a new life with his family.
